Monkey Bar (Go Bananas!) {Restaurant/Food Review}

Food and restaurant reviews are a common thing for any blogger. But it becomes quirky and overwhelming when a venue like Monkey Bar comes in the spotlight. It wasn't their special menu, nor the concept but the architecture of Monkey Bar that got me interested in checking them out. The outdoor design is quiet artistic and calm, whereas what  lies within is exactly the opposite.

 About Monkey Bar
Monkey Bar, India’s first Gastropub brand now joins New Delhi’s skyline with its promise to offer you anything but the usual! Located in the heart of south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, Monkey Bar, the Indian avatar of the Gastropub, puts its own unique spin on the internationally popular concept. It has the essence of a pub and is backed by excellent food and service, at accessible prices.

Isn't it cool? A foosball and snooker table to pump up the fun quotient.

Their 'ORGANIC' menu.

 The Drinks at MOBAR
So Gastropub has to have a brilliant cocktail menu + food. I am being very honest here, but all the time I spent there trying their menu out, I was not disappointed even once! Their drinks are not the ordinary Mojitos/Martinis and Beer Pints, but much more than that, infused with the desi elements of India. To give it a more quirkiness, the drinks have been named differently, eg. Maanga, Red Riding Wood, etc.

MAANGA
Vodka, Aam Panna, Sweet Lime & Jeera salt.

COPPER MONKEY
Whiskey, Mandrin, Passion Fruit, Mint & Bitters.

CAIPIROSKA
Cherry Tomato N Chilly

RUM RITA
Rum, Red Wine & Wild Berry Compote

VODKATINI - Chocolate

 The Starters
I have never seen so much variety in starters to go with the drinks. It in itself is a main-course buffet. The menu is an intense amalgamation of  the traditional Indian snacks, like a Maharashtrian Vadapav to a colorful twist of Flutterfly.

TIKKI OF JOY
Calcutta inspired Bhetki Fish cutlets with Kasundi Mustard, Fennel seed and Mustard.

FLUTTERFLY
Paneer and Cheese cubes tossed with a mix of chili, herbs, onions and ginger; stuffed in crisp shells.

HOME MADE CHICKEN NUGGETS

MoBar CARAMELIZED RIBS

CHUBBY MUSHROOMS
Stuffed mushroom caps with soft onions, feta cheese and herbs, served with slaw and balsamic reduction.

VEG KABABS WITH FRESH COTTAGE CHEESE, served with grilled Pav and Chutney

BOMBAY VADAPAV

DABELI
Tamarind and masala flavoured potato in fresh buns with sev, peanutes, pomegranate, fig & tamarind and garlic chutney

CHILI CHEESE DRAGONS
Spring rolls filled with cream cheese and mozzarella, green chili, capsicum, coriander and onion. Roasted garlic chili dip.

POT STICKERS
Pan-seared dumplings served with house special tomato chili sauce.

 Main Course
If you are not over starters, they have a splendid menu of main course to offer as well. You can simply chill back, sip a drink or two, play a foosball game and when your tummy grants, enjoy their scrumptious spread of Indian and Continental cuisine.

MEE GORENG
Ramen noodles, soft boiled egg, spicy sauce, crispy garlic and vegetables.

KOSHO MANGSHO & POROTTA

MoBar BURGER

KHEEMA BAO
Freshly steamed bao stuffed with spicy mutton served with a rich mutton broth.

 Desserts
Monkey Bar takes it's menu very seriously. And that is why they haven't sidelined their desserts menu. As the chef presented these tempting platters right in front of us, my eyes sparkled with excitement and we all enjoyed tasting these yummy sweets like a group of  overwhelmed school kids.

FLOURLESS CHOCOLATE XS CAKE

STICKY DATE PUDDING WITH TOFFEE SAUCE

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE SUNDAE

CHOCOLATE POT DE CREME WITH SALTED CARAMEL
Caramel Popcorn, Lemon Poppy Cake Slice with Olive Oil

OLD MONK(ey) CHOCOLATE CAKE

MoBar SUNDAE SANDWICH
Layers of cake, ice crea, nuts, Nutella, cream, jello & tutti - frutti

 My Personal Favorites
Drinks - Maanga, Vodkatini (Chocolate) and Copper Monkey
Starters - Tikki of Joy, Flutterfly, Home made chicken nuggets, Chubby Mushrooms and Chili Cheese Dragons
Main Course : Mee Goreng and their signature Burgers
Dessert - Sticky date pudding, Chocolate pot de creme, Old Monk Chocolate Cake and MoBar Sundae Sandwich

 My Verdict
Ambiance : 5/5
Food : 4.5/5
Service : 4.5/5
Value for Money : 3/5
