AW’12 : LFW Winter/Festive 2012 “SERIES” Day – 4 [Part 1]

It seems that this year is indeed “Festive” as not only were Summer Fashion Trends full of colors, but LFW Winter 2012 is also seeing a lot of colors.  Well so here I am presenting to you “ LFW Winter/Festive 2012 “SERIES“” I will bring to you the top picks from the collections shown on each day of the LFW Fall 2012. In the order of their appearance on Day 4, Part 1, let us look at the best picks from Day 4!! Outhouse by Kaabia and Sasha Grewal Fall 2012 Collection “Leone d’oro” The look was impressive, edgy and very strong for the dramatic jewellery called “Leone d’oro” presented by Kaabia and Sasha Grewal at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012. Inspired by the Golden Lion, the collection had a marked African touch as the king of the jungle’s face appeared on imposing pendants. Chic and elegant, the inspirations further moved for the dazzling ornaments from Art Deco architecture to lion sculptures, leopard prints and geometrics. It was Luxe styling at its ultimate best, as the designing duo played with body ornaments with different types of leather. Spiked necklace with large rear pendants and cascading chains, lapel necklace and cuffs, tasselled pendants and necklace with the Peter Pan collar shape had coloured stones. Fringes on flat collars took to centre stage to give that very rustic touch. Totally mesmerizing were the collar cum belts with a long metal placket connecting them and the modern version of the “haat phool” for the hands. Meera and Rohit Aggarwal Fall 2012 Collection “Rivaayat” Inspired by Shah Jahan’s wife Mumtaz Mahal, this collection by Meera and Rohit Aggarwal for their label Rivaayat aimed to be a mirror image of the blue blooded lady who was known throughout the land for her exquisite beauty. The creations focused more on Indian traditional wear, adding a modern touch to turn up the ‘oomph’ factor with low cut backs and tie ups, which graced saris and cholis. Exaggerated feminine forms made for free flowing silhouettes and skirts, which seemed to flirt with one’s ankles. With a colour palette comprising royal reds, black, gold and other festive colours, the garments shone through in intriguing fabrics such as silks and nets amidst other woven materials. To add a refreshing jolt to the collection, Meera and Rohit also injected shots of bold colours such as grey and mustard which were embellished royally with sequins, bead work and rich embroidery. With a concept of old art revival coupled with regal emphasis, this collection by Meera and Rohit Aggarwal will surely leave anyone in awe. Gaurang Shah Fall 2012 Collection “Ardhagini”   Bringing together a clever mix of beautiful saris, anarkalis and ghagras, Gaurang Shah dazzled the audience with ethnic wear at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012. Calling his collection “Ardhagini” Gaurang presented garments that will appeal to the modern bride. The colours were the ever popular yellow, orange, red and pink – all very auspicious for that important day in a girl’s life. Working around the beauty of Kanjeevarams, Kalamkari and zardozi, the designer highlighted the intricate weaving known as Korvai for the magnificent South Indian saris. It was the return of the glamorous 1950’s and 1960’s retro look, that Gaurang recreated with the beauty of Kanjeevaram silks and splashed them with animal motifs in bright hues that will be a dream come true for any bride. Gaurang Shah picked the most perfect show stopper for his display – the ever beautiful, elegant and charming Kirron Kher who glided down the ramp in a rich ivory brocade sari. Sannam Chopra Accessories Fall 2012 Collection “Medieval Pop” Chopra plays with a unique concept for her collection titled ‘Medieval Pop’ which focused on the unusual concept involving a story and set in the medieval times, when men would just as a way to garner honors. Amidst the crowd, there lies a beautiful woman, somewhat amused and intrigued she envisions herself in their attire with an added feminine touch. The range showcased a number of accessories such as bags, necklaces, cuffs and hair accessories. Set in regal Swarovski crystals along with imposing large stones the pieces were tastefully bold and large, accentuated by gold chords as well as silver tassels. In the order of their appearance on Day 2, Part 1, let us look at the best picks from Day 2!! Aartivijay Gupta Fall 2012 Collection  “I Love Ma Doodle Book” With white as her backdrop and black doodle sketches highlighting her garments, Aartivijay Gupta created a black and white fantasy at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 called “I Love Ma Doodle Book”. The pure white line-up of Dupion and tabby silk, along with luxurious crepe was used imaginatively for shift dresses with sketches of faces and figure blocks. Panelled jackets with dramatic gadgets, a jumpsuit, constructed jacket with black figures and flowing pants had a feminine look. The clever play of black and white also came alive for sharply cut jackets with wide notched lapels, slender long sleeve sheaths cinched with black Obe style belts, tunics, slender pants, kimono style covers some with strategically placed tucks or pleats and asymmetric bias cut hems. The final three saris brought in colour with the doodles featuring colour wheels or shade cards print and were worn with floppy blouses. Anushka Khanna Fall 2012 Collection ‘Floral Fragments’ Anushka Khanna’s collection was all about infusing art with clothing. Taking inspiration from mosaic work her collection titled, ‘Floral Fragments’ was a blend of Victorian romanticism with the rigidity and classical structure of this Renaissance art. Using fabrics such as silks, georgettes and crepes, the designer kept her silhouettes free flowing and feminine, with a surreal appeal. For embellishments, coloured thread and sequins were played with, to help accentuate the frames, giving them an almost other-worldly edge. Transposing from modern to ethnic, this collection also included saris as well as flared skirts which displayed both mosaic prints as well as patterned beadwork. Felix Bendish Fall 2012 Collection “Flow” Felix Bendish, an accessory designer dazzled the audience with his collection titled ‘Flow’. The line comprised brooches, necklaces, hair accessories, cuffs as well as clutches, showcasing everything a fashionista could possibly dream of. Using Swarovski crystals as well as large juicy gemstones, Felix played with designs which ranged from abstract to symmetry, to large statement pieces which seemed to break effortlessly into flowing designs. Gen Next Designers Fall 2012 Collection Day One of the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 season opened with a great show by the Gen Next designers who displayed to an applauding audience their creations featuring innovative and unconventional fashion. These great finds by Lakmé Fashion Week will once again give the Indian fashion industry the bright young stars to watch out for. Aniket Satam – A New Fashion Beginning “Aarambh” Calling his collection “Aarambh” (New Beginning) Aniket Satam’s creations came to life for the designer while reading about the Mayan myth of 2012. Celebrating a new beginning in fashion, Aniket’s layered silhouettes had elaborate tactile texturing to present a creative collection. Shades of milk, ivory, cobalt and ink were splashed on sensuous viscose georgette, cotton jersey, raw silk and velvet. Aniket added embellishments that ranged from hints of gold foil to ghungroos, which highlighted the very unconventional abstract embroidery with splashes of colour.
