4th Edition of Tarun Tahiliani Couture Exposition 2012

July 27, 2012
25th July, 2012, DLF Emporio, New Delhi was my ticket to Fashion Heaven!! It was the press release of TARUN TAHILIANI’S NEW BRIDAL COUTURE COLLECTION. From the venue to the innovative exposition design, everything was about “Fashion” and “Creative Minds”.
This larger than life glass structure is a unique concept that has been brought to life by AIS Glasxperts, which is the only company in India having the expertise and technology to do so. It is also the first time any celebrity designer has chosen glass as a theme for showcasing his collection. The ‘Jewel Box’, a 14 feet high glass structure has been created using AIS Ecosense,  AIS  Clear  Tempered  Glass, AIS Securityglas, AIS Acousticglas, AIS unique  Integrated  Glass  Unit , AIS  VUE  windows, AIS  Décor  lacquered  glass and AIS  Mirror.
Sixty of the finest pieces from Studio’s latest couture collection will be on display during this 4 – day exposition. Set against a cutting edge glass backdrop that creates a magical mix of tradition and modernity, the new couture collection is displayed in a novel contemporary setting, fabricated on-site specially by AIS Glasxperts with multiple glass technologies.
“Bridal is about the bride. It shouldn’t be about trends. Women are still making polarized choices when it comes to couture, but clearly they must be true to who they really are”, says Tarun Tahiliani emphatically as he discloses nuances of his new collection.
For the bride, there are special key-hole jackets, coupled with lehengas in classic hues of deep red and gold; versatile, modern day anarkalis—in fresh citrus colors of mango and peach, with bodices plastered in a mesh of Swarovski Elements—with flowy, elegant drapes and deep scoop necklines, which can be paired with churidaars or worn as gowns.
For the groom an antique gold brocade sherwani with raised cream cotton thread work styled with a long flared crinkled cotton kurta and an ivory stole which can be paired with a dhoti find prominence.
Fine combinations and technically crafted Swarovski Elements lend a new high for the sparkle seeker with the stunning spectacular piece created with the expertise of Swarovski Creative Center in Austria. A newly developed mesh fabric made of crushed crystals is used as a border, which is absolutely flat and light, yet lends an ethereal look.
A tulle sari in delicate shades of Mediterranean jade, embellished with tiny floating flowers that sparkle in the brilliance of Swarovski Elements with a hand-embroidered threadwork border is pegged as perfect, understated bling.
An animal-esque copper silk chiffon concept sari with a lace and crystal border worn with a beige corset, adorned with the delicate thread work and Swarovski Elements that can be worn for a glamorous cocktail.
Another dazzling piece is an old world traditional bridal lehenga with threadwork and zardozi embroidery paired with a traditional choli and embroidered drapes.
There is even playing around with hues of Orange to break the mundane red and pink lehengas. Hours of delicate craftsmanship has resulted in beautiful embroidery. The look has been completed with JH Jewelers Kundan Jewellery.
Keeping the traditionalism alive, Tarun Tahiliani has also designed royal pink lehenga with heavy golden embroidery and tule odhni. To provide a sophisticated look to the bride, the exposition also showcases a Louis Vuitton collection.
These Louis Vuitton Vanity Bags created the perfect blend of sophistication and Indian bride. Although they were a part of the props used, but still they held a very deep meaning.
For something out of the ordinary, there are emerald green shararas in georgette with chikankari embroidery that exude classic charm. Three-dimensional antique gold sequin work laid in clusters creates the illusion of depth and shade.
There was a parade of colors, glitter, Swarovski, sophistication and aura of  the Modern Desi Bride. This intense mix of colors, fabrics, themes, jewels, crystals and master mind Tarun Tahiliani was indeed applaudable.
The groom wear too shows delicate and hours of devoted craftsmanship. The choice of ivory and hues of bronze and gold brings out the manly side of the groom wear. This look has been completed with kundan rani haar for the extra royal look.
I call this monochrome saree as “Nargis in Barsaat” This saree is chic, retro and soooo Nargis style from the movie Shree 420. Her hairstyle brings out the retro look more prominent.
From Traditional to Modern, Tarun Tahiliani included every style an Indian bride can dress up.
And then there was the “PRESS RELEASE”
Tarun Tahiliani addressing the media.

‘The Big Strike’ contest was a  major highlight of the exposition today where Tarun Tahiliani’s exquisite watch collection was at display inside a box made of AIS Securityglas and anyone who could break the glass & touch the watches, could own them. However, even after numerous attempts, none could break through despite using a baseball bat!
Merry Tarun Tahiliani
