You will find plenty of restaurants in Delhi that are swearing by the futuristic ‘Gastronomy’ skills for their menu, or those who are trying to be either severely retro or absolutely quirky to catch attention. We foodies are loving all the attention and surely don’t mind opting for a Butter Chicken Pizza over the traditional Butter Chicken-Naan combo. But if you are a true delight and would like to re-live your childhood days, then Janpath Grill House Delhi is the place to be at!
Gather along all your Delhi folks and visit this nostalgic hub of everything to do with Delhi food. Be it the street chats of the narrow Old Delhi Lanes, or Rajinder Da Dhaba style grilled chicken tikkas, Janpath Grill House is serving it all in its most authentic flavours; under one roof. Situated in the heart of Delhi, and right across the buzzing shops of Janpath Thrift Market, this newly opened restaurant offers the traditional flavours of Delhi cuisine with a twist of molecular presentation.
THE FOOD
Following a buffet system for all 7 days of the week, the restaurant offers both lunch and dinner. One gets to dine in with a variety of grill tikkas which are placed on a live BBQ station right in the middle of the table.
This comes complimentary with a few mocktails that have all been designed keeping in mind the chatpata taste buds of Delhiites. The meal deal begins with a nitrogen-smoked cup of chilled Frayms as Amuse-Bouche, that instantly reminded me of my school days when snacking over these was a better deal than spending Rs.10 on a pack of Lays.
This ritual is taken forward with the server lining up the grilled seekhs of your choice. We tried on a combination of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian grills like Tandoori Chicken Tikka, Achari Prawns, Wasabi Prawns, Mushrooms with Mustard dressing, Rosemary Fish and Thai Chicken Tikka; to name a few. The grill offers a variety of options for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian feasters.
While one indulges in a wide palette of grilled meats and vegetables, Janpath Grill House offers a molecular Chaat platter that consists of the traditional Golgappas and a nitrogen washed chilled Papdi-Chaat to feast your eyes on! Not only does the chaat tastes incredible, but the presentation in itself turns out to be quite engaging as well.
Coming to the main course menu, they have a change of menu all 7 days of the week (which implies on the grill as well) and offers a variety of main course dishes to try on. Now if you are a regular ‘Dal Makhni’ taster, you’ll understand how hard it is to find the authentic flavours that only a handful are able to achieve when it comes to preparing this queen pulse staple.
I can definitely vouch for the Dal Makhni that they make at Janpath Grill House and can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed upon trying the one they prepare. Not only the Dal Makhni, but even their non-vegetairan main course curries are all fabulously done with the right flavours that I use to indulge in over my childhood. For kids, they have a live Pasta counter as well and for Diet-freaks they have an array of salads listed on the menu.
Coming to the desserts section, they offer a variety of Delhi sweets like Gulaab Jamun, Rasmalai, Phirni and Kheer. And since it’s really hot here in Delhi currently, they offer chilled Kulfi in 2 flavours (we had the Kesar Kulfi and Rooafza Kulfi) too!
THE INTERIORS
Given that finding a descent place to open up any venture in Connaught Place is a tough call, Janpath Grill House manages to be architectured on a spacious zone. The overall décor of Janpath Grill house is quite catchy. The entrance has been quirked up with a half Delhi-Auto model installed where all the table reservations takes place.
Upon entering the restaurant, you get to see a giant wall with hand-painted lifestyle story of Delhi and its people. The dining space has been positioned spaciously with elegant Mughal-inspired paintings and comfortable seats for a great dining experience.
Their are family booths on the ground floor, with an extensive bar and a separate area for the buffet. They also have a 1st floor where more intimate seating is available for diners.
