Serenade is an all-day dining restaurant by WelcomHotel Bella Vista, an ITC Group property. While I have already covered the entire property coverage on my Youtube channel, I had to invest in an exclusive blog article featuring just the food that Bella Vista has to offer.
Situated right next to the Panchkula – Chandigarh roadway, Serenade WelcomHotel Bella Vista is no less than a food paradise amidst the scenic beauty of Shivalik Mountain range and the European architecture of the property itself.
Welcome Drink – Mint and Aam Panna concussion.
The first time you sit down for a meal at Serenade, you will definitely expect the typical Punjab-Haryana flavours to tantalize your taste buds. Not to forget the expectations of having a big chunk of the menu devoted to the non-vegetarian cuisines.
Flavours of the Region
Well, I had a similar perspective as I sat down with Mr. Avinash Deshmukh, the General Manager of Bella Vista; while I quitely anticipated the meals to follow up.
AMRITSARI FISH – Fish Fillets dipped in spicy gram flour batter, deep fried and served along with mint and tartar sauce.
Chef Manohar welcomed by presenting the first meal to speak about the ‘Flavours of the Region’. The course commenced with tender and flavoursome servings of Amritsari Fish that was tandoored to perfection.
TAMATAR AUR DHANIA KA SHORBA – A thin soup made of extract of fresh tomatoes, flavoured with fresh coriander and select spices.
Next up, was ‘Tamatar Aur Dhania Ka Shorba’ which in a lay-man’s world is termed as a basic tomato soup; although the smoky and tangy flavours of this soup were definitely rich and content.
For main course I had Murgh Mumtaz (Butter Chicken) and I have to admit that this is one of the best Butter Chicken preparations that I’ve had in a really long time. The king curry was supplemented with Subz Panchmel (seasoned vegetables cooked with onion and tomatoes), the traditional Dal Maharani and an array of tandoori naans. The meal was concluded with a generous serving of Gulab Jamun with their homemade Vanilla Ice Cream.
Now, for a standard level of expectations, one will expect the upcoming meals of the stay to be on the similar lines. Lots of curries, tandoori items for starters and an Indo-Wester dessert palette. Well, Chef Manohar had planned out to surprise me with his cooking skills in advance.
Flavours of the Orient
With a heavy dose of butter loaded curries, tandoori items and stuffed naans for lunch, I really needed a change of palette for my dinner meal. As I walked into the restaurant on a Friday evening, I was quite overwhelmed to see that the place was jam-packed with diners and their was even a waiting in order for dinner servings.
THREADED COTTAGE CHEESE – Cottage cheese covered with pastry threads and fried crisp. Served with lime dip.
Felt honoured when I was informed that a table has been reserved for me, even in this hour of busy service. To begin with, I munched on an Amuse Bouche of Threaded Cottage Cheese fried to crisp.
SHANGHAI BEAN CURD – Cubes of bean curd fried crisp and tossed with five spice flavoured sauce.
For starters, I had Shanghai Bean Curd which was soft and loaded with oriental flavours done to perfection. I was looking forward to taste a prawns preparation, which was definitely not a disappointment as I was served tender Prawns in hot garlic sauce. The prawns were juicy, well cooked and tasted fresh!
PRAWNS IN HOT GARLIC SAUCE – Wok fried prawns tossed in hot garlic sauce.
The main course was one of their own creations called a ‘Meal Box’. They have a variety of meal boxes to offer for single diners.
ORIENTAL MEAL BOX
Each meal box consists of a variety of dishes, each presented in meal bowls to curb the appetite of a single person. Well, to be honest, you will be in for a loaded experience as the portions served are quite big (at least for my appetite), but then who doesn’t love an extra bite of good food, eh?
The oriental meal box consisted of Shredded Chicken in Black Bean Sauce, Five Treasure Vegetables wok fried with Shitake Mushrooms and mixed with chilly sauce. Each meal box is complimented with a choice of vegetable fried noodles or steam rice.
HONEY DARSAN WITH DATE ROLLS – Crisp darsan served with a dollop of berry ice cream and topped with dates wrapped in a crisp pastry.
For dessert I had Honey Darsan with Date rolls which was nothing less than a paradise in my mouth. Crisp darsan is dripped with honey, a dollop of berry ice cream sits on the bed of Darsan crisps and the icing on the cake has to be the warm Date roll that is worth every bite.
Truth be told, it rained quite hard throughout my stay at Bella Vista. Although I was bummed to not having been able to step out much and stroll through the markets of Chandigarh, the picturesque views of the property and hashtag worthy food at Serenade helped lift my spirits up.
The Sizzler Menu
Chef Manohar has curated a menu solely dedicated to the art of preparing sizzlers. I’ve been told that sizzlers are one of their customer favourites. In fact, the popularity is so much so that they’ve organized special events and festivals only to present their loyal customers an array of sizzlers to feast on.
LAHORI MURGH SIZZLER – Chicken on bone marinated with a crushed spice marination and char roasted.
For starters, I was presented a sizzling hot portion of Lahori Murgh Sizzler, which was char roasted and richly marinated in spices for some mouthwatering flavours.
MAHI DARIYA SIZZLER – Cubes of fish marinated in a carom seed marination and char roasted.+
Next up, I tried Mahi Dariya Sizzler which happened to be cubes of fish marinated in a carom seed marination and was char roasted till crisp from outside. Like always, the fish was the freshest catch and had all its flavours and juices intact; upon service.
In main course, I was totally blown away by Tava Subz Sizzler. Now, if you are from Delhi and have attended Delhi weddings, you will be well acquainted with the ‘Tawa fry’ assorted vegetables that the Halwais make. The tawa fried veggies are tossed in a thick gravy at the time of service. This sizzler was exactly the same and came with a wide range of tandoor naans. For a more Indo-western palette, I also tried Exotic Vegetable Sizzler which consisted of assorted veggies like Broccoli, Peppers, Zucchini, Babycorn, Tofu and mushrooms tossed in garlic soya sauce. And for those who love meatballs, they have a dedicated Spicy Meat Balls Sizzler as well. You can have it as it is, or compliment it with a serving of either rice or naans. The dessert consisted of their Authentic Gelato flavours like Blue Berry, Almond Caramel and Biscottino.
Western Flavours – In Room Dining
Due to the rainy season, I ended up catching a cold and was in no mood to leave my room. Besides, that evening happened to be the night of India – Pakistan match.
A non-cricket enthusiast like me too ended up watching the match, sitting on the edge of my chair as the scores soured and munching on some delectable dinner to conclude it all. Bella Vista offers a quick in-room dining experience as well!
CLASSIC CAESAR SALAD – Topped with sundried tomatoes and roast pepper slivers.
Complimenting the match atmosphere, Chef Manohar sent across a complete western menu which was apt to munch on for a good 2-3 hours, while watching the match.
HERB CRUSTED FISH FILLET – Served with orange and mesclun salad.
For nibblers, I was served the classic Caeser Salad topped with sundried tomatoes and roast pepper slivers. For non-vegetarian starter I had Herb crusted fish fillet with zesty orange and mesclun salad.
GRILLED COTTAGE CHEESE – Served on vegetable ragout flavoured with herbs.
The main course was a spread of Grilled Marinated Cottage Cheese served on a bed of exotic vegetables and a Roulade of Chicken stuffed with mushroom and spinach. The mains were served with bread rolls on the side.
CHICKEN ROULADE – Deboned chicken roulade wrapped with mushrooms and spinach and roasted in the over. Served with seasonal veggies and pepper sauce.
For dessert, I had Chocolate Cheese Cake topped with Dark Chocolate Ganache which was melt-in-mouth and not too thick in consistency.
CHOCOLATE CHEESE CAKE – Philadelphia cream cheese cake topped with dark chocolate ganache.
The Breakfast Menu
Like any other ITC Hotel, Serenade WelcomHotel Bella Vista also follows the international breakfast menu norm. But apart from their fixed menu, they do have a rotational Day-Special delicacies that are served hot as per the customer’s liking. From freshly pressed juices, South Indian flavours served in North, to the regular continental egg preparations; they serve it all to perfection.
Although, they don’t have a property based bakery, the hotel has tied up with a well known local bakery that serves them with freshly baked breads and pastries.
Apart from the regular baked menu, they also offer pancakes and waffles on demand with chocolate sauce, maple syrup and freshly whipped cream. Yum!
One thing that I’d personally like to mention is that Chef Manohar’s food preparations speak volumes about his vast experience in the industry and about his passion to cook right. Definitely one of those rare food connoisseur who knows his mixes right! If you happen to visit WelcomHotel Bella Vista, Panchkula; don’t forget to dine at Serenade restaurant. And if you happen to be a little confused about what to order, let the chef-hatter magician surprise you with some of his impromptu creations!
The staff is attentive, engaged with the tourists and businesses travellers answering their local and food related queries at all times. They are quick to understand the requirement of the diners and offer spot on service to please the expectations.
